Chapter 16
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Accepted | The Server took your command and sent it to the Player. The Player has not confirmed the result yet. |
| Activity | The list of recent actions and how each screen answered. Click the summary line in the dock. |
| Adopt into Show | Take a Player that belongs to another Server into your Show. Asks once and names the other Server. |
| Alias | The name you give a Player or screen in the Show, such as "Hero laptop". It does not rename the machine. |
| All | Select every screen in the Show. Never assumed; always chosen. |
| Aspect | How content fits a screen: Fit, Fill or Stretch. |
| Blackout | Take a screen to black. Reveal brings it back. |
| Build | One step within a slide: an object appearing, a line of text arriving. Next plays the next build before moving to the next slide. |
| Computer Labels | Each Player's name shown on its screens, for finding machines. A slide-to-arm switch. |
| Controller | Scenic Controller on a Mac, iPhone or iPad: where you run the show. |

| Decorator | Scenic Decorator, the Mac app for building decks. |
| Deck | Content with slides: a Scenic deck (.sgdeck), a Keynote file or a PowerPoint file. |
| Emergency blackout | A blackout sent by a phone straight to a Player while the Server is unreachable. Off unless the Show allows it. |

| Group | A named, coloured set of screens, such as "Office wall". |
| Health glyph | The dot on a screen's card: green when Live, amber or red with a reason when not. |
| Hold selection | Freeze the selection so clicks only show details. |
| Input lock | A Player's own keyboard and mouse locked so nobody at the machine can change it. Your cues still reach it. |
| Interface Lock | The Controller locked against stray presses. Hold to unlock. |
| Keep Alive | A Player relaunching itself after a crash, and at startup. |
| Library | The decks and media on the Server, ready to send. |
| Live | A screen whose Player is connected and reporting. Also, on a thumbnail, a picture taken from the Player. |

| Server | The background process that owns the Show and sends every command to the Players. |
| Show | Everything the Server keeps for one production: Players, groups, Grid, Library, Snapshots, cues and settings. |
| Shuffle | In the Controller, a different random slide on each selected screen. In the Decorator, variations of a slide. |
